Southwest Texas College Dean Armando Mondragon Recognized by Middle Rio Grande Development Council

Uvalde, TX, August 31, 2026 - Southwest Texas College proudly announces that Armando Mondragon, dean of applied sciences, was recognized by the Middle Rio Grande Development Council for his outstanding service and dedication to advancing workforce development and educational opportunities throughout the region. The recognition honors his continued efforts to expand access to career and technical education while strengthening pathways to employment for students across Southwest Texas.

Throughout his tenure at Southwest Texas College, Mondragon has played a pivotal role in growing the college's technical and workforce programs. Under his leadership, the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program was expanded to the Eagle Pass campus, and the Welding Program was established at the Del Rio campus, increasing access to high-demand training opportunities for students in both communities. He has also helped advance the college's Powerline Program and secured critical resources through successful grant initiatives that continue to strengthen technical education offerings.

His commitment to student success extends beyond program expansion. Mondragon led the development of a dual credit nursing pathway, creating opportunities for high school students to begin preparing for careers in healthcare while helping address workforce needs across the region. He is also guiding the development of the FAA Powerplant Program curriculum, working toward the addition of an Airframe component in Uvalde and exploring future technical education opportunities in Carrizo Springs and Cotulla.
