Southwest Texas College Reaffirmed for 10 Years, Highlighting Ongoing Commitment to Excellence
Uvalde, TX, June 26, 2026 - Southwest Texas College (SWTX) has been reaffirmed for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for another 10-year period, with no additional reporting required.
The reaffirmation follows a comprehensive, multi-year review process that evaluated all aspects of the college’s operations, academic programs and institutional effectiveness.
Southwest Texas College President Dr. Hector Gonzales said the reaffirmation underscores the institution’s continued commitment to excellence.
“Southwest Texas College is proud to announce that it has been reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC),” Gonzales said. “This reaffirmation reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, student success and continuous institutional improvement, ensuring that it continues to meet and exceed the highest standards of quality in higher education.”
“This reaffirmation is a powerful validation of the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to excellence in all that we do,” he added. “It underscores our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities and strengthening the communities we serve.”
The reaffirmation process began in January 2024, when President Gonzales and his Cabinet initiated work on the college’s Compliance Certification — a comprehensive self-assessment demonstrating adherence to SACSCOC’s Principles of Accreditation. The document ultimately included more than 1,500 supporting evidence items and nearly 90,000 words of analysis.
After submitting the certification in March 2025, the college addressed feedback from an off-site review committee and later hosted an on-site review team in October 2025. The on-site committee issued only one recommendation, which the college resolved by providing additional documentation demonstrating faculty qualifications and instructional effectiveness.
SWTX’s 2026 reaffirmation outcome closely mirrors its 2016 reaffirmation, reflecting a continued pattern of institutional consistency and adherence to accreditation standards.
College leadership attributes this outcome to strong institutional practices, including a comprehensive strategic planning process, consistent implementation of Strategic Planning Initiative (SPI) efforts across all departments and detailed documentation of institutional operations and decision-making.
The on-site review committee also noted the college’s hospitality and flexibility during its campus visit, specifically recognizing the institution’s ability to adapt to schedule changes and provide a supportive environment for reviewers.
The reaffirmation effort was a collaborative, institution-wide undertaking involving faculty, staff and administrators across all areas of the college. Employees contributed by writing and reviewing sections of the Compliance Certification, gathering and organizing supporting documentation, maintaining academic and operational records and participating in interviews with the on-site review committee.
Key contributors included the President’s Cabinet, along with faculty and staff from multiple departments who played significant roles in preparing materials and supporting the review process. Specialized teams also assisted with logistics, technology support and hospitality to ensure a successful on-site visit.
College leadership also emphasized that the reaffirmation reflects sustained institutional consistency over time, including adherence to policies and procedures, maintenance of accurate records and a continued focus on transparency and accountability in documenting college operations.
