SWTX CARE Team
The Southwest Texas College CARE Team consists of a committed group of faculty and staff who provide assistance to students in distress through confidential consultation and referral to resources both on and off campus.
The focus of the CARE Team is preventative rather than punitive, with the goals of assisting students to succeed and educating others about ways to help distressed students.
CARE is an acronym for Consultation, Assessment, Resources, and Education.
- Consultation – Assess concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students by drawing upon professional experience within the campus community.
- Assessment – Determine referred student’s need for emotional, psychological, or physical support and refer to appropriate resources.
- Resources – Identify campus and community resources for students.
- Education – Provide training opportunities for faculty and staff and proactive workshops for students.
When do I report a concern to the CARE Team?
If you’re concerned about a student, and you believe this person’s behavior may present a threat to themselves, the college, or the surrounding community, you should make a report to the CARE Team.
The following behaviors, especially when more than one
- Significant change in appearance, mood, and/or social functioning
- Behavior that creates a disruptive or hostile environment
- Actions that potentially endanger the safety of any member of the SWTX community
- Behavior that impacts one’s ability to function appropriately and successfully on campus
- A sense that someone is struggling or something is wrong
How do I report a concern to the SWTX CARE Team?
