Start a Pathway Toward an Associate of Arts Degree English Field of Study

The English Field of Study (FOS) at Southwest Texas College prepares students who are interested in English and transferring to a university. The Associate of Arts Degree English FOS includes curriculum approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The English FOS includes 12 lower-division semester credit hours that are fully transferable to other Texas public colleges and universities.

Students should always consult with an academic or English faculty advisor regarding transfer to a specific college or university. In addition, students should consult with an advisor at the Texas college or university to which they are transferring for additional information.

To receive an Associate of Arts Degree English FOS, students must make a minimum grade of C in all required core courses and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher..

An associate’s degree with an English Field of Study from Southwest Texas College provides the foundation for transfer to a university. Completion of a bachelor’s degree with a major in English develops strong critical thinking, communication skills, teamwork abilities, personal responsibility, and social responsibility required in a variety of career settings.

1. A student is not permitted to enroll in two literature courses during the same semester.

Additional courses may be accepted by the Transferring (Receiving) Institution. Students should consult with their Success Coach.
