Start a Pathway Toward an Associate of Arts Degree Communication Field of Study

The Communication Field of Study (FOS) at SWTX prepares students who are interested in communication and transferring to a university.

The Associate of Arts degree Communication FOS includes curriculum approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The Communication FOS includes 12 lower-division semester credit hours that are fully transferable to other Texas public colleges and universities.

Students should always consult with an academic or Communication faculty advisor regarding transfer to a specific college or university. In addition, students should consult with an advisor at the Texas college or university to which they are transferring for additional information.

To receive an Associate of Arts Degree Communication FOS, students must make a minimum grade of C in all required core courses and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

An Associate of Arts Degree from Southwest Texas College provides the foundation for transfer to a university. Completion of a bachelor’s degree with a major in Communication develops strong critical thinking, communication (written and spoken), and personal responsibility skills required in a variety of career settings.
